Purpose & Goals
MI-AMTE, the organization, was formed in 2015. We are an affiliate of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. Per Article II of our bylaws, the goal of MI-AMTE is to promote all aspects of quality mathematics teacher education in Michigan.
Per Article II of our constitution, the goal of MI-AMTE is to promote all aspects of quality mathematics teacher education in Michigan.
Specifically, the purposes of MI-AMTE are to:
Promote excellence in the preparation and continuing development of all teachers of mathematics by providing quality leadership among mathematics teacher educators in the broad mathematics education community;
Promote equitable practices in mathematics teacher education, including promoting diversity among mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher educators;
Facilitate communication and collaboration among mathematics teacher educators;
Work collaboratively with other associations, organizations, and governmental units concerned with the preparation and professional development of mathematics teachers;
Organize programs and meetings focusing on issues related to the preparation and professional development of mathematics teachers.
Each year in March, the board sets priorities that will guide MI-AMTE for the following year.
2026-27 priorities:
Priority #1: Expand MI-AMTE's network.
Priority #2: Advocate for research-informed policies & practices that support meaningful mathematics teaching and learning.
Priority #3: Support recruitment, inclusion, and retention of new and early-career math teachers and math teacher educators.
